Miranda Senior Portraits l Schaffer Photography

I met Miranda and her family one afternoon for a little fun while taking photos at the Duck Pond in Salem, VA.  Miranda was so much fun to work with and I got to know a little about her and her future plans for college.  Good luck Miranda!

Hawaii Trip Day 2 (Sunday, 6-12-11)

My husband and I started out Sunday morning running late for church.  Lucky for us, church was just across the parking lot!  After a mad scramble into the shower, we made it out the door for a phenomenal church service.  The people at Waipio Grace Brethren Church were so friendly and welcoming- I felt so comfortable and right at home.  Pastor Frank did a great job teaching that morning.  I walked away from church that morning feeling very blessed that I learned all that I did that morning :)  After church, we were starving!  After all it was 6 pm and dinner time back in Roanoke.  My stomach was not quite over the jet lag yet.

After downing a quick sandwich, we headed out to the North Shore.  With no directions in hand we just got in the car and drove.  We weren't really sure where to go, but we knew that we would eventually find our way there!  Just drive towards the ocean, which is visible from most places on the island.  We ended up at Lanikai (pr. Lon-E-k-eye) beach which is famous for their sea turtles, also called Honu (pr. Hon-ew).  What was really cool was that while Stephen and I were swimming around, a sea turtle swam right into him!  We politely said excuse me and kept swimming.

After a long afternoon at the beach, we headed back home to Mililani, but we stopped first at the Dole Plantation for a Dole whip.  A dole whip is a deliciously smooth pineapple ice cream topped with chunks of fresh pineapple.  Amazing!
After we got back to the house, we found a little surprise.  He was hanging out on the walls staring at us.  A lizard!  Anoles and geckos are extremely common in Hawaii and can be found almost anywhere you go.  We tried in vain to catch him to put him back outside, but he was just too fast.

These little guys are everywhere!
Sorry for the lack of photos for today! I ran off and left my camera.  Boo, I know.  Pearl Harbor photos on the blog post for Monday's Hawaii trip.  Woo hoo!!
