The photography
I love photography. Even without saying it, I hope that it’s quite obvious. Photography is a wonderful art form and I admire how something seemingly ordinary can become so interesting with just the right light and from just the right angle. I love how emotion can be brought out in a black and white image that is unrivaled by color photography. Even though I have had formal photography training in college, my love for photography started when I was much younger. My mom was the first person to give me a camera and still to this day she has one of my first photographs, taken when I was just in elementary school, hanging on her wall. So, a sincere thank you to my mom for getting me started.
I established Schaffer Photography as a Roanoke, VA based photography business in 2009. I am a proud member of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA.com), one of the oldest and most prestigious professional photographer associations in existence. I absolutely love what I do and my hope is that you can see that passion shine through in my work.
The philosophy
My photography style is very candid and relaxed. Although technical skill is crucial, making you feel comfortable is of equal importance in producing high quality images. I want to make sure that your personality is captured because that’s what makes a truly great and memorable photograph. I take a photojournalistic approach to capturing your memories whether it be photographing families, children, pets or weddings. I want to make sure that when you look back on your photographs, they bring back great memories and you feel that you received original and creative high quality images.
The photographer
I am a proud Hokie, graduating from Virginia Tech in 2009 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Microbiology and Immunology. I currently work during the week as a laboratory technician at Novozymes Biologicals where I work in the wastewater department. I am married to my high school sweetheart, Stephen, and we have two furry four-legged kids named Gracie and Logan, who just happen to be the mascots for Schaffer Photography. Our dogs are loved and spoiled beyond belief. I am a huge animal lover, having worked in veterinary hospitals for over 7 years before graduating college. I have a lot of diverse interests to occupy my time when I’m not photographing such as archery, pottery, music, soccer and dog training. I love my friends and enjoy spending time with them too!
